I'm Jo, a graphic designer turned photographer... I am not a wordsmith and have always relied on visual art to tell my stories. I have written a little about myself, but taking a look through the photo galleries will show you an idea of my work.

As cliche as it sounds, my love of photography started as a little one when I was given my Mum’s hand me down camera. I remember taking photos around the backyard, in the spare block next door with the chooks and veggie garden, even getting my brother or friends to dress up and I’d snap away. Finishing the roll of film, I’d put it at the top of the stairs for my Dad to drop in for developing on his way to work. I’d wait the two weeks or so and do it all over again. I don’t think my parents ever minded wasting the cash on my “photography”.

Fast forward throughout schooling to the end of grade 12 and two portfolios were submitted, one to study graphic design and the other photography. Both were accepted. While I had enjoyed briefly learning camera and dark room practices, I choose graphic design. Three years later I landed my first full time design job at a boutique studio at Milton, Brisbane. 11 years on and still working in the industry my mind was never far from photography.

Then came along my first born. This only accelerated my love of being behind the lens. The past six years have seen me initially be mentored by our own wedding photographer and in turn photographing other peoples beautiful weddings, as well capture moments through my two children’s eyes. I've also had the privilege of photographing many families. All the while never really letting go of my graphic design work, the two have often gone hand in hand.

And last, but definitely not least, when you see your photos for the first time and in the following years to come, I want you to feel something. I want your family to feel something - capturing natural and genuine connections is the aim.
